Powder Room Storage

A while  I was flattered to receive an email from my cousin who is in the process of choosing her first home. She was wondering if there were options for powder room storage that were stylish and functional that would make good use of a small space (pedestal sink and toilet). Without seeing the room dimensions, I am not sure how much floor or wall space she has to work with, but here are a few inspiration pictures of small bathrooms that incorporate style + storage:

I love the look of a vintage medicine cabinet, an old medical cabinet is always a classic choice (try Christie's antique market in the fall!). The pink is what caught my eye on this one.

I believe this bathroom is from Sarah's house 1 or 2, she is a great resource for mixing aesthetics and practicality in a room. Not only does she use a medicine cabinet above the toilet (yes, you can do that) but the storage pods below that are egg shaped are from IKEA. I think they are really cute, and could hold everything from cotton balls to face cloths.
This is not really my style, but I love the use of vintage crates or boxes affixed to the wall. Vintage industrial wire baskets are also a great option for towels and bathroom tissue.
Simple open shelving is always a great way to store things in a small space; candles, art, and baskets work great (for the less attractive stuff). Here are a few more storage pieces that are on my favorite list:
If you have room, this little industrial cabinet is so cute and affordable.

This hive storage is unique and can be configured on the wall in different ways. Toronto is getting a CB2 at the end of summer, I would take advantage of this resource!
A bar cart is always a versatile option, and can be moved to different rooms.
I must admit I am just a little more than in love with this medicine cabinet. A dark dramatic colour on the walls and an over the top glamorous light fixture required with this one.
I hope my cousin has as much fun decorating her powder room as I had making this post! I have all kinds of new ideas for the next house and our soon to be remodeled bathroom. Just remember that a small space is the perfect opportunity to allow your creative side to get a little wild: graphic wallpaper, chandeliers and sconces, art, tile (a gorgeous hex, perhaps)? they can be the most exciting room to decorate!
