How to Child-Proof a Stereo

We have a fairly pathetic stereo set-up - a vintage Pioneer Receiver, a modern Sony turntable, and...gasp...a Discman. Yes. A Discman. Our speakers are nice looking and were apparently used as studio monitors for the Montreal Olympic Games. In 1976. Yes. We are clearly behind the times. Even funnier is that both my husband and I are musicians.

The real issue at hand currently is that Emmett likes to push the buttons on everything. The other day I heard a strange sound and realized it was the turntable needle scraping along the plattern. Awesome. This is more than a phase as it has been going on for almost a year!

We are desperately trying to think of ways to protect our basic but functional system (or the new one which will come at some point). Some sort of cabinet is what we are leaning towards, preferably a lockable one!

This one from Ikea seems to fit the bill:

It even has holes drilled for the cables.

Another thought was to take a teak credenza and (egad!) drill holes in the base or back for cables. Obviously we'd get something a bit cheaper than this one:

So, you see we haven't come up with anything particularly earth shattering. What have you done to childproof your precious stuff?

It's a Girl!

I'd like to introduce you to a brand new special little lady...

My little pumpkin Hazel! She arrived Friday night at 10:51 p.m., and here she is already trick-or-treating. I am madly in love already, she is such a good natured baby.  Hope you guys had a great Halloween weekend!

A Spot for Baby

I have always been a little bit sad that I have never had the opportunity to create a nursery in preparation for any of my little ones. Of course they are not deprived because their childhood rooms (ie. Henry's lately) get more attention than the space that their parents sleep in by the time they can appreciate it! Still, I love looking at beautiful spaces parents have created in anticipation of a new baby, and get inspired to create a special spot for my own little impending arrival, even if in the corner of my own room! Here are some of my favorites:

Oh the detail that has gone into this tiny nursery! I love the colours, that genius use of ikea shoe storage mounted on the wall and the tiny Panton  inspired chair. Perfection.
This closet-made-nursery is truly inspiring, especially to parents who think they do not have the space to create a place for baby!
Tons of vintage charm in this nursery, and you know this colour scheme is one of my favorites!
This nursery is feminine without being overly sweet...
I love how the use of texture makes this nursery so cozy, the light is fabulous as well...
So much inspiration, so little time. With three weeks left I'm not sure how far I could go, but these images do remind me that I can do a lot with the little space I have to make a special spot for this next baby!
