Cool Kids' Play Spaces

Pinterest - Make it for your kiddoes
Well we all know that Rachel's kids have the coolest play space ever, but I'd like to at least get a look in on the cool-Mom stakes. So I'm seeking inspiration for our playroom.

Love this wall mounted busy-board!

Baby Who
A little known fact about me is that I am named after (or at least my naming was inspired by) one of Dr Who's sidekicks - Leela. She was the cave woman one. I think we need a tardis.

Is that really a working chandelier in there??

Remodelista
Le sigh.

Sometimes Ideas Just Need to be Shared...

This idea has been circulating on blogland for quite a while: I first saw it on Ikea Hackers, and then one of my favorites Table Tonic:
Now I know, I've been a little crazy on the storage lately. But what kind of friend would I be if I didn't share this brilliant idea? These run for only 6.99 at Ikea; I could go buy a million of these, they hold so much. I could see them especially in a craft room, and my husband is definitely going to pick up a few for his shop. Now here is how they look in Holly's room next to her own little stuva bench (I had to pick that girl up some storage, her room is next on my list. It is sad to say but her space has been poorly neglected this summer):
I like the look of these painted white but I am enjoying the natural colour as well. What do you think?

Industrial Cool in Kid's Rooms

Lately I've been obsessed with industrial-style decorating. I love the way you can warm up something so utilitarian and cold with colour or warm woods. Industrial style furniture is not only useful in kids rooms, it can grow with them and look cool in a teen's room as well! I am looking forward to using some of this style in Henry's room; here are some of the looks that inspire me:
Love these locker cages, so useful for toys and sport's stuff! Always have adored chalkboards and sign letters too...
An industrial cart change table? Genius!
Love vintage lockers; this is a great example of how fun industrial can be in a kid's room

This vignette sums up exactly the look I am going for in my son's room: part industrial, part school house, great boy-ish colours. I have already found an old metal desk  and typewriter (which he plays with!)that I love for his room; I have one more project in the works that is an old curbside find that I intend to transform with colour. Hint: you see these at variety stores......
